The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Whenever a prominent prize-giving event nears, there’s always a clamor to include fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
