Intensive Russian Strikes Cut Electricity Throughout Kyiv

Power facilities targeted in the region
Ukraine's power facilities have faced escalating strikes in the past few days

Overnight, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have led to blackouts in multiple districts of the capital city, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were injured while inhabitants in the city's east were experienced blackouts and dealt with problems to drinking water, per reports from local authorities.

Meanwhile, a young boy was killed in a different assault in the southeastern region in the country's south-east, according to local officials.

Moscow has escalated strikes on energy facilities over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has requested "substantial measures" from partner nations to exert influence on Russia.

"The necessity is not window dressing but firm measures - from the America, European nations and the Group of Seven - in delivering defensive weapons and enforcing sanctions," was stated in a online statement.

Officials stated that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and more than 30 projectiles attacked energy facilities, describing such attacks as "cynical and calculated" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Russia was "launching a major assault" and technical staff were working to restore power.

A wave of strikes damaged power facilities and civilian homes in Kyiv.

Multiple people wounded in the attacks on the city have been hospitalized, according to local officials.

Government officials told reporters that Russia was intentionally trying to demolish the country's energy grid, with strikes already impacting energy systems.

He said technical personnel and authorities were anticipating additional strikes.
